Film screening as a part of American Rebels by Levi's

The 501® Jean.
Stories of an Original

The Levi’s® 501® button fly jean – the original and first ever blue jean – was born on May 20, 1873. More than 140 years later, it is more popular than ever. In celebration of 100 years of partnership with Cone Mills Denim in North Carolina, the Levi’s® brand presents a short documentary film, which explores the lasting impact the Original 501® jean has had on cultural history.

This 17-minute, three-part film is a story of modern American history with the Levi’s® 501® at the center. Exploring the role the 501 plays in work, style and rebellion, the film features interviews with pioneers and innovators like musician and journalist, Henry Rollins; artist John Baldessari; founder of The Sartorialist, Scott Schuman; co-founder of Partners & Spade, Andy Spade; model and style icon, Erin Wasson, and many more.

Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, the former protégé and one of folk music’s most enduring characters narrates the documentary. From prolific artists like Bob Dylan and Pete Seeger, to the Rolling Stones and Grateful Dead, Elliott has been hailed as a major influence. His famous voice plays an integral role in the film and perfectly sets the tone. Indie rock artist Ernest Greene of Washed Out contributes to the original score.
